As a rule of thumb, it is recommended to have one (1) fire extinguisher unit for every 500 square feet of workspace, as per MS 1539 regulations.
You must have your fire extinguishers serviced every 12 months. This service should be carried out in accordance with the MS 1539 standards and conducted by a third party, an accredited fire extinguisher technician (competent person) authorised by Local Authorities.
Fire extinguishers should be wall mounted about 3.5 to 5 feet above the ground where they are visible and readily accessible in the event of a fire. They are typically located in common areas or along normal paths of travel for ease of access.
